Morsi Campaign: Deposed Mubarak and Partners Must be Re-Tried for Serious Crimes
Dr. Yasser Ali, official spokesman of the ‘Morsi for President’ campaign, asserted that the prosecution evidence was lacking to substantiate charges against Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s ousted president, his sons, his interior minister and six of his top aides, as well as fugitive businessman Hussein Salem.
“The public prosecutor did not do his duty fully in the collection of sufficient evidence to convict those accused of killing demonstrators and injuring revolutionaries.”
Yasser expressed stunned amazement at the ruling to jail for life deposed Mubarak and his interior minister, and then acquit those who carried out the killings – ostensibly for lack of evidence.
“There is a clear contradiction in the reasons given for the verdict, which indicates the presence of ‘problems’ in the judgment itself.
“The ruling is farcical, does not reflect the importance of the case nor the crimes of killing hundreds of martyrs and wounding thousands of the finest Egyptian youth, some of whom have been maimed or completely disabled for life.”
Yasser further called on all state institutions to come forth with any clear evidence they have for a retrial of the culprits, for a fair punishment and retribution against the killers of the martyrs.
