Morsi Meets Former South African Vice President

 Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Chairman, received on Wednesday February 15, a South African delegation headed by Baleka Mbete the former Vice President of South Africa and leader of the National Assembly of South Africa at the party’s headquarters in Manial Al-Roda.


Morsi welcomed Mbete, reviewing the political scene in Egypt following the parliamentary elections explaining that during the upcoming phase Egypt will witness the presidential elections followed by the drafting of the new constitution. He also pointed out that the FJP is working towards forming a transitional government in consensus with all political parties in Egypt.

Morsi praised South Africa’s democratic transformation stating: "South Africa’s economic development and progress is truly worthy of respect". He stated that the FJP is keen on strengthening ties between South Africa and Egypt following neglect by the former regime.

In turn, Mbete highlighted South Africa’s eagerness to strengthen bi-lateral relations politically, economically and socially, focusing on the significance of exchanging experiences especially regarding the drafting of the constitution and legislation since South Africa is familiar with the procedure. She also called for Egypt’s support for South Africa’s candidate to chair the African Union.
