Morsi Praises Role of Rights Groups in Strengthening Civil Society

Freedom and Justice Party Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Morsi, received on Monday  human rights delegation made up of Kamal Al-Gandoby, head of the International Human Rights Network and member of the Executive Board of the International Organization Against Torture and the President of the Supreme Committee for Elections in Tunisia; Raji Surani, Director of the Center of Palestinian Human Rights and the VP of the  International Federation for Human rights; Khadija Sherif, Secretary General of the International Federation for Human rights, and the representative of the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders; and Abdul Sattar Ibn Mousa, President of the Tunisian League for Human rights.

Morsi praised the prominent role rights organizations play in supporting human rights in the wake of the Arab Spring and how they uncovered the oppressive practices by the dictatorial regimes. He reiterated FJP unconditional support for human rights, adding that the first legislative law addressed by the FJP’s parliamentary bloc in parliament was the amendment of articles allowing referral of civilians to military tribunals, which will be approved within the next few days.

Morsi asserted that the FJP welcomes initiatives supporting the civilian society, which is significant for any progress craved by Egypt, adding the party will benefit from laws regulating the work of human rights organizations applied in a number of Arab countries, including Tunisia".
