Morsy: Mr. Ragab Hilal Hemida Not A Member of Muslim Brotherhood
The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) posted on its website March 8, 2006, a translation of a recent interview with Mr. Ragab Hilal Hemida by Rose El-Youssef, in which he was referred to as “Muslim Brotherhood member of parliament” and was allegedly quoted saying ”The Koran Encourages Terrorism; ‘Bin Laden, Al-Zawahiri and Al-Zarqawi are Not Terrorists in the Sense Accepted by Some”.
Mr. Hemida also allegedly made other statements defending Al Qaeda and supporting its activities. Several extremist Jewish and Christian websites publicized the report in order to undermine Muslim Brotherhood stance on terrorism and trying disperately to link the Muslim Brotherhood to Al Qaeda.
Dr. Mohamed Morsy, Member of the Muslim Brotherhood Executive Bureau and former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Parliamentary bloc in the previous parliament, stated to Ikhwanweb that Mr. Ragab Hilal Hemdia, parliament member of the Ahrar Party, was never a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, adding “With all my due respect to all Members of Parliament; our representatives in parliament are only 88 and Mr. Hemida is not one of them. His agenda and views are completely different than ours”.
Dr. Morsy stated the Muslim Brotherhood members in parliament are well known and they have their own leader and a spokesperson.
Dr. Morsy reiterated the fact that there are no links between the Al Qaeda or Ayman Al Zawahiri and the Muslim Brotherhood because simply they both have completely different ideology “.
. . Mr. Al Zawahiri himself attacked us for participating in recent elections . . . for nearly 80 years, we have been constantly harassed and oppressed by the ruling regimes, and nevertheless, we always seek legitimate opposition through constitutional channels and never will resort to violence”
