MP Gamal Shihata Loses Hearing in Left Ear after Torture in Junta Prison

MP Gamal Shihata Loses Hearing in Left Ear after Torture in Junta Prison

A Chief of Investigation Detectives at Shebin Prison in Egypt severely beat 50-year old lawmaker Gamal Shihata, Member of Egypt’s Parliament (the People’s Assembly, now disbanded), inside Shebin Prison.

MP Shihata’s lawyer said that the chief detective assaulted and beat the lawmaker more than twice, which caused loss of hearing in his left ear.

Shihata’s lawyer further said the parliamentarian’s health is deteriorating rapidly due to deliberate medical neglect by the prison administration. He also pointed that "Shihata previously had a liver transplant, which doubles his suffering inside military coup prisons", and urged a quick release for his client.
