Brotherhood MP Accuses Interior Ministry of Turing Police Stations Into Torture Centers
A member of the MB parliamentary bloc lodged an interrogation to Prime Minister and the Interior Minister over the Interior Ministry’s continuous human rights violations.
Hussein Mohamed Ibrahim, the deputy chief of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentary bloc, lodged an interrogation to the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister around the Interior Ministry’s of continuing its systematic violations against human rights in Egypt . Torture has become a wide-scale phenomenon, in a flagrant violation to the constitution, laws and international covenants to which Egypt is a signatory, he said, adding that these violations are committed in a systematic, organized, individual and institutional ways .
Hussein Ibrahim added that he has lodged this very interrogation in 2000 parliament when the first report of the national human rights council was issued, but it wasn’t discussed; then, he lodged it later last year but it wasn’t discussed too; the MB parliamentarian pointed out that he has divided this interrogation into a several axes, in which he accused the government of turning police stations into torture centers, citing several incidents and documents that prove this.
Ibrahim confirmed that the incidents of missing dozens of detainees has become a phenomenon that Egyptian human rights organizations have documented; the police takes dozens from the same family as hostages in order to force fugitives to surrender themselves .
He warned of the deteriorating state of Egyptian prisons, that developed into serious diseases among thousands of prisoners in addition to causing deaths among others, due to not giving them due medical care in their prison.
The MP voiced concern over the deteriorating treatment to detainees in Egypt , illegal detention, suffering, and also pictures and footages of torturing detainees in police stations under police elements.
