Mubarak and Biden meet to solve Gaza blockade

President Hosni Mubarak and Vice President Joe Biden’s recent meeting concluded with claims that the US is contemplating different humanitarian, economical, security and political methods to solve the Gaza situation

.Egypt’s temporary lifting of the siege after the Israeli massacre on the Freedom Flotilla, was commended worldwide after it had been slammed for participating in the blockade with Israel. Thousands of Palestinians have since crossed into the border to receive health care among other services

Biden however, urged Egypt to maintain the talks with Israelis and Palestinians, describing the progress toward direct negotiations as crucial

Egypt’s ruling regime, has been under pressure by its people  to keep the border crossing open after it has supported the blockade and kept borders closed turning Gaza into a large prison. The recent raid on the humanitarian’s ship has sent people worldwide into the street and in Egypt in particular, hundreds of thousands led by the Muslim Brotherhood and political opposition have rallied to condemn the killings and the 3 year blockade. The demonstrations have even impelled the US to reconsider the tenability of Israel ’s arrogant policy of keeping Gaza closed

Analyst Dr. Stephen Cook however believes that although the US will look into the situation it will not rethink the idea of the blockade and undermine Israel ‘s authority where Biden was reported to have claimed he was sympathetic to Israel ‘s security and that Israel had the right to stop ships entering Gaza

Although other issues were discussed Biden appropriately sidelined the recent Shura elections which were a complete sham.
