Mubarak appoints new Azhar President

Abd Allah al-Husseini, 64, has been appointed the new Azhar University President by Mubarak after Altayeb assumed post as the country’s top cleric following Tantawy’s death last March.
The 1000 year old Azhar University is one of the world’s major centers of Islamic learning which consists of numerous schools universities and institutions. Scholars travel to Egypt from all over the world to enroll in the University.
Al-Husseini has a PhD in linguistics and is an Arabic language professor. He was the former university’s vice president for educational and student affairs.
