Mubarak rejects opposition demands for constitutional amendments

Calls for constitutional amendments were rebuffed by 82 year old President Mubarak, who described the opposition’ appeals could lead to ‘possible chaos’  Mubarak addressed the country during his belated “Workers day” speech, stressing that Egypt ’s “current delicate circumstances do not allow room for those who fuse change with chaos.

He confirmed however, that he believed the interaction between the opposition forces was healthy and that he remained committed to pursuing free and fair elections. This however remains to be seen and if today’s banning of nomination for elections is any indication then the transparency and integrity of election is a long way off.
