Mubarak tried to flee to Saudi Arabia on Monday night

An Egyptian newspaper on Wednesday quoted "reliable sources" as saying that late Monday night the former president Hosni Mubarak tried to flee the country to Saudi Arabia, using a private helicopter.

According to "Al Wafd Daily”, the traffic control tower at Sharm el-Sheikh airport received requests from two private flights from Tabuk Airport heading to Sharm El-Sheikh and then Riyadh Airport and a helicopter from Sharm El-Sheikh Airport to Tabuk.

A source at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport confirmed that the helicopter was expected to take Mubarak and family members to Saudi Arabia. The attempt by the former president to flee took place after the Attorney General announced he would officially summon him and his two sons for investigation.

The control tower immediately notified the Civil Aviation Authority and shortly afterwards received an order not to approve any private jet flights heading to or from Sharm El-Sheikh until the issuance of further instructions.
