Muslim Brotherhood: Provincial Governor Appointment a Presidential Matter

Dr. Mahmoud Hussein, Secretary General of the Muslim Brotherhood, affirmed that selecting governors of provinces is solely a Presidential issue, and has nothing to do with the group.

In a statement, Dr. Hussein said: "The Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau did not discuss governor nominations, nor did it deal with the issue in its meetings".

He pointed that the Brotherhood will not discuss this topic, unless and until the Presidential team asks the group to nominate individuals for governor posts, "apart from that, we are not party to the process".

For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Ghozlan, Executive Bureau member of the Muslim Brotherhood, rejected as totally untrue rumors published by a certain newspaper about a meeting of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau which has allegedly discussed nominations from the group’s administrative offices nationwide, for candidates suggested by the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) for governor positions.

"The Guidance Bureau does not convene on Sundays. Its weekly meeting is always on Wednesday. It is the Bureau’s staff that meets on Saturday; but it did not address the nominations of governors at its meeting."

Earlier, the Presidential team has announced that it will declare the names of new governors over the next few days, without giving any more details.
