Muslim Brotherhood: Presidential Council Good Idea, Lacks Legitimacy

Mahmoud Hussein, Secretary General of the Muslim Brotherhood, said that the organization is not against the idea of the Presidential Council, stressing that it certainly seeks for all patriotic Egyptians to take part in rebuilding their homeland.

Nevertheless, he added that this idea is simply not feasible on the ground, because there is an electoral process that has already begun, with Egyptians abroad half-way through the voting activities. Additionally, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) will not hand over power except to an authority elected by the people through the ballot-box.

Thus, the idea of a presidential council with no legitimate authority may theoretically have its good perspectives, but it certainly has no chance of success practically.
