Muslim Brotherhood-Alexandria Statement on Rebel Siege of Tawheed Mosque

In a press statement Wednesday, Anas Al-Qadi, media spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood in Alexandria, condemned Rebel movement’s siege of Tawheed Mosque, surrounding a number of Muslim Brotherhood members inside, after destroying one of the headquarters of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) on Wednesday evening.

"Rebel’s actions, its assaulting of a number of Brotherhood members and a number of local residents, wounding 6 Muslim Brotherhood members and 4 local shopkeepers, and their laying siege to places of worship, thinking nothing of such places’ sanctity, are all simply a repetition of the acts of violence and terror committed by opposition forces, which keep changing colors as they use a variety of names, beginning with the Salvation Front, then the Black Bloc, and finally Rebel. However, they used the same method, the same violence, away from any real political action.

"It seems that Rebel movement began its anticipated wave of violence earlier than expected. It has certainly revealed its intention to ignite clashes, shed blood, storm headquarters and laying siege to mosques, just as they did previously under the name of Black Bloc.

Al-Qadi added that, "For so long, the Muslim Brotherhood have patiently endured the actions of these groups of thugs, because the group is committed to its peaceful discourse and is determined not to be drawn into violence by criminal acts sponsored by certain parties that claim to believe in democracy and the civil state.

"These parties and movements have clearly demonstrated their abject failure, total political bankruptcy, and final defeat in the Egyptian street. We will not hesitate to defend our headquarters, our charity events, fairs and other activities, and we will use all legal and legitimate means to prosecute those involved in today’s acts of violence – which will not pass without reckoning."
