Muslim Brotherhood Calls For Solidarity With Political Detainees

Mr. Mohamed Mahdi Akef, Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, called upon all citizens to rally behind the political detainees and press for their unconditional release regardless of their political affiliations or beliefs. Mr. Akef  stated that “freedom and human rights are top priorities for all reform efforts in Egypt” and this reform should begin with the amendment of the Judiciary Law in order to achieve its independence.

Mr. Akef praised the protestors “who took to the streets expressing their solidarity with the judges in a civilized and peaceful manner only to be met with extreme oppression and brutality by the police forces of which the Muslim Brothers have suffered the most . . .More than 600 people are now in custody and as a result of their courage, the regime was not able to crush the judges as it planned to”

Mr. Akef called upon all intellectuals, and ordinary citizens to put their differences aside and demand the government to release those detainees “We call upon all conscientious people in the society. . . to show their support to those detainees, whether they are members of the Muslim Brotherhood or others, and use all legitimate means to demand their immediate release. . .This is a patriotic cause and a religious duty we all have to fulfill”
