Muslim Brotherhood MP Denounces Confiscation of Live Broadcast Sets

Saad Kahlifa, Muslim Brotherhood MP, submitted a request on Monday to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Information demanding query into the confiscation of five live broadcasting instruments from an IT company. He demanded the PA speaker to hand it over to the Culture and Information Committee in the People’s Assembly.

The incident will probably affect the airing of many important satellite channels such as Aljazeera and Dubai, the MP said. This comes as one of the consequences of the recent Arab Media Charter, that was followed by many restrictions on the airing of independent satellite channels.

“It is ridiculous to see the government cracking down on media outlets at the same time when it constantly brags about freedom of expression and democracy,” he added.

The only explanation for this is that the government can no longer accept criticism and can hardly resolve the citizens’ problems. This is neither benefiting the country nor Egypt’s national income, he said.
