Muslim Brotherhood Statement on Prime Minister and Palestinian Authority Rumors
Some Egyptian print and broadcast media have been reporting incorrect news to the effect that the group’s Guidance Bureau sent an urgent letter to Dr. Hisham Qandil, Egypt’s Prime Minister, asking him not to hold any meetings or bilateral negotiations with ministers belonging to Fatah or the Palestinian Authority, and to limit meetings to Hamas Ministers.
This news is totally unfounded. The Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau does not interfere in the work of any governmental authority, and certainly does not interfere in the work of Ministers or the Prime Minister.
Further, the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in bringing about reconciliation between all Palestinian factions, and their support for the Palestinian cause and the historical rights of the Palestinian people is well known to all.
The attempt by some to portray the Muslim Brotherhood as administering the country’s affairs, issuing instructions to government bodies and senior figures, is a desperate attempt to tarnish the image of the Brotherhood and to turn the Egyptian people against it.
We call on everyone to show professionalism, truthfulness, honesty and objectivity, and not to deliberately or haphazardly throw accusations at innocent people, spreading lies that can affect relations between nations and peoples.
Dr. Mahmoud Ghozlan
