National Alliance Calls for Escalating Protests, Continued Commitment to Non-Violence

The Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance issued the following statement regarding the July 3, 2014 protests:

At the height of the summer heat and during a day of complete fasting, in large and confident crowds and powerful effective activities, the Egyptian people pushed forth in large marches to achieve their noble objectives. Starting earlier than suggested by the Alliance, many Egyptians started out just after dawn prayers in some provinces. They reached several squares and vital locations despite all the obvious preparations for brutality and aggression by coup forces of the most panic-stricken commander, who is totally isolated from the people.

The National Alliance holds the putschists responsible for the consequences of terror acts and heinous murders committed by their militias which killed two peaceful protesters, and wounded many seriously with cowardly live bullets.

The Alliance calls on everyone to continue the day of rage, and escalate progressively and strongly, and to take all necessary measures of legitimate self-defense without abandoning the peaceful approach. Let the blood of the martyrs be a powerful impetus for us to develop more ingenious defiance and resistance activities until we ultimately triumph over falsehood. The decision in all activities is up to the leaders of demonstrations according to developments on the ground.

The enemies of freedom, the enemies of this homeland, should prepare for departure or for fair trials very soon. Revolutionary Egyptians have shown today that they have the upper hand, the last word, and that they are writing pages of Egypt’s future in the streets now.
