National Program Boosts Drug Manufacturing with LE10 Million Annually
Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, Executive Director of the Science and Technological Development Fund, announced the launch of a national program to promote Egypt’s pharmaceutical industry, with funding of 10 million Egyptian Pounds (about US$1.6mil) annually, amid tireless efforts by the Fund for the advancement of strategic industries in which Egypt has a comparative advantage.
"After the Fund’s board of directors, headed by Dr. Nadia Zachary, Minister of Scientific Research, approved the initiative in its last meeting, it was decided that research grants would be offered towards the advancement of the drug industry in Egypt.
"The priority will be for innovative projects as well as research and development projects that lead to the production of new pharmaceuticals utilizing local expertise, the production of Interferon, Insulin, the manufacture of pharmaceutical raw materials, and early detection of viral diseases, especially hepatitis viruses."
