On the Anniversary of the Coup against the Will of the People: An Expanding Awareness in the Face of Systematic Corruption!

The eleventh anniversary of the military coup on July 3, 2013, proves what the “Muslim Brotherhood” has asserted from the first moment until today: that it was a full-fledged military coup against the will of the people and against Egypt’s first democratic experience. It marked the beginning of a systematic path aimed at Egypt’s regression and diminishing its significant historical role, leading to a compromise of the nation’s sovereignty and national security. Escaping this coup is the first step towards reviving Egypt anew.

It began with attempts to break the will of the people, violate the dignity of citizens, and restrict their freedom, creating an atmosphere of fear and terror through crimes of arrest that affected tens of thousands, excessive politically motivated death sentences, slow deaths due to deliberate medical neglect in detention, in addition to direct killings of peaceful demonstrators in the streets and squares, complete closure of the public sphere, and the banning of competitive political activity. This led Egypt to retreat in the democracy index to the category of “not free” according to the “Freedom House” classification, creating a climate of despair among the youth and a burning desire among many to brave the seas and migrate into the unknown through illegal ways where lives were lost by drowning and heartbreak over a lost nation and lost hope.

As soon as the coup achieved its goal in instilling fear and planting despair, it proceeded with its egregious crimes of selling off the nation’s assets and compromising its essential elements and properties, amounting to outright treason; it gave up the Tiran and Sanafir islands, compromised the waters of the Nile, and sold state assets frantically, weakening Egypt’s regional and international role, and burdening future generations with debts; causing Egypt’s external debt to rise by 74%, approaching $170 billion, besides the domestic debt, despite the substantial funds provided by regional and international supporters, erasing the future as it had erased the past and present.

Finally, the sinister hand of the coup extended to the heart of Egyptian society to dismantle its social fabric, sever the bonds between its components, stir up fabricated disputes, target the family and the Egyptian value system, and protect elements and manifestations of corruption and vulgarity, amidst a complete collapse of the education system; which resulted in a significant rise in crime rates and the emergence of crimes strange to Egyptian society over the past years!

Overall, these systematic policies have led to the weakening of state institutions; by employing them to serve the coup, consolidating its grip on power and on the citizens, and diverting these institutions from their main tasks of achieving justice, accountability, and ensuring freedom of opinion.

The "Muslim Brotherhood" asserts that despite this growing corruption and the repressive measures that initially targeted a political spectrum rejecting the coup and then extended to all components of society indiscriminately; the coup will not succeed again in deceiving the people. As days pass, the expanse of awareness among the citizens regarding the disaster of July 3, 2013, increases! The Egyptian people are on the verge of a collective rejection of the continuation of this coup, and indicators confirm that the people are nearing a major revolution that will not leave tyranny and corruption any moment of daylight.

We affirm that the hour of deliverance from this dark era of Egypt’s history is contingent upon more cohesion among the components of Egyptian society and its free national forces; it is also contingent upon the people moving from a state of growing awareness to a state of action, rejecting tyranny, and actively seeking to restore national will and break the barrier of fear; preparing to reclaim their rights, restore their dignity, preserve their achievements, and embark on a new path where they regain their right to choose who governs them, own their resources, and restore the status that Allah intended for the great country of Egypt.

“And Allah is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.” (Yusuf: 21).
