Opposition arrested during campaigns defying Mubarak’s pledges
Eight members were arrested late last week from the National Association for change, the group formed in support of IAEA’s former chief Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei for distributing pamphlets. The detainees belong to different opposition groups including Kefaya, and the Ghad Party. All opposition has agreed in the call for constitutional amendments but apparently demands fall on deaf ears
As elections approach security have engaged in arrests hauling in many members of opposition mainly from the Muslim Brotherhood group who have succeeded in fielding 14 candidates in the upcoming Shura Elections. As campaigns take place and MB candidates in numerous constituencies engage in rounds security and police forces attempt to thwart the movement. Banners are ripped or confiscated in addition to pamphlets seized by the authorities demonstrating misunderstanding of the ’emergency law’s’ renewal
The President’s allegations and assurances that all elections will be free, fair and transparent fail to convince the public
