Parliament Amendments to Presidential Election Process Prevents Manipulation, Fraud
The People’s Assembly, Monday, approved in principle a draft law amending certain legislative provisions regulating the presidential elections, aimed at imposing judicial oversight on the electoral process and preventing manipulation of the result.
The bill, submitted ??by a number of lawmakers and presented by the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Affairs to the Assembly, allows decisions of the General Committees overseeing the electoral process to be challenged and appealed before the administrative court.
Sobhi Saleh, Deputy of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Affairs, said that the goal of this amendment is to ensure maximum integrity of the electoral process, pointing out that the amendment pertains to the general committees only, not the Supreme Committee, since that would contradict the Constitutional Declaration.
Meanwhile, Saad Al-Husseini, Chairman of the Plan and Budget Committee and member of the Executive Office of the Freedom and Justice party, lauded the draft law, stressing that the president of the republic is such an important and sensitive post that all Egyptians want to safeguard the process of electing the right person for it.
