Police Assaults A Woman In A Rally Against Blogger Detention

Policeman Salim Abdul-Azim physically assaulted a 25 years old woman while passing by a rally held by activists and bloggers downtown Cairo on Thursday, Ikhwanweb reporter said.   


 


The policeman beat and insulted Ikram Mosaad Mary, who works at a textile factory while she was observing the crowd with her friends. She was saved by some of the protestors and some security officers, who sent the police officer to Al-Azbakiah”s police station.


 


Meanwhile, a lawyer at the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights has immediately accompanied the lady and some eye-witnesses to the police station to report the misdemeanor no. 14675.


 


After intensive attempts by security officials to convince her to withdraw the complaint, she refused to give in and accused the policeman of assaulting her physically and verbally.


 


More than 31 April 6 activists and internet bloggers rallied before the Prosecutor General”s office on Thursday in protest against detaining Blogger Mohamed Refaat after being ordered released by the prosecution.


 


They raised Egypt“s flag and repeated chants calling for the immediate release of Refaat. They were heavily cordoned by security trucks and forces.
