Presidential Hopefuls Meet to Discuss Egypt’s Struggling Democratization

In unprecedented meeting, six presidential candidates discussed on Tuesday the current situation in Egypt and latest disappointing decisions by the ruling military council, including attacks on free speech and media.

Amr Mousa former secretary general of the Arab League, Mohamed ElBaradei former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed Selim Alawa, former MP Hamdeen Sabahi, and Islamists Abdul Monem Abul Fotouh and Hazem Salah Abu Ismail exchanged visions and discussed measures to deal with latest events and strained relationship with the military council. The meeting came in response to call by several youth activists who voiced concerns about the direction of Egyptian democracy and the obstacles created by violent events across Egypt.
