The Egyptian security forces have prevented a protest organized by the National Committee for the defense of prisoners of conscience and freedoms which was expected to be staged today(Wednesday June, 1st, 2007) at noon infront of the Egyptian Parliament.
However, people participating in today’s protest were surprised to find a large number of security forces besieging the parliament and preventing them from reaching it.
Other hundreds of security forces were standing at Al-Tahrir square  surrounding it in case the protest was moved there.
Mohamed Abdul-Quddous, the organizer of the National Committee holding the protest, said in a private statement to Ikhwanweb that the protest was to be held in solidarity with the Palestinian pilgrims stuck infront of the Egyptian borders, demanding their right of returning to Gaza strip.
He also said that he was quite shocked by the security forces preventing him from reaching the Parliament where the protest was to be held.
Abdul-Quddous added that he chose the Parliament for today’s peaceful protest as they wanted urge the Egyptian Parliamentarians to push the Egyptian government to reopen Rafah border crossing.
