A state of outrage and extreme condemnation filled the atmosphere following the resolution by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb at the Azhar University following the recommendation by Prime Minister Ahmad Nazif of appointing Dr. Kariman Mahmoud Al-Defaie, Professor at the Faculty of Languages and Translation. Dr Al-Defaie was recommended for the position of chief librarian of the universities libraries in Cairo and other provinces.

Professors described this resolution as inappropriate claiming that Al-Defaie had a reputation of constantly attacking the Azhar education where she always calls for its abolishing.

MP Alam El-Din Al-Sakhawy, of the MB Parliamentary bloc, considered this resolution as a movement by the ruling elite to abolish Azhar education under the pretext of being a sectarian education system.

In his statement to the website theparliament.com the MP stressed that the opinion of Dr. Kariman is personal and does not reflect the opinion of the majority of the religious people in Egypt, or the opinion of some MPs who strongly oppose all attempts to abolish the Al-Azhar educational system.

He pointed out that the MB MPs are performing their best in restoring Al-Azhar's glory participating  refusing any  kind of proposition of abolishing the distinguished educational institution and the  defamation of it.
