DUBAI, -- The United Arab Emirates said Saturday it is concerned about the German court’s decision to release an Israeli Mossad agent accused of involvement in the slaying of Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai Jan. 2010.
“The State of the United Arab Emirates closely follows judicial proceedings in Germany against Yuri Brodsky, who was arrested for using an illegal German passport,” the UAE foreign ministry told new outlets.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the UAE foreign minister’s legal assistant Abdul Rahim Awadi said he is worried about Yuri Brodsky being released on bail and given freedom to return to Israel while the case against him continues.
“The Emirates wants guarantees to ensure that Brodsky has no connection to the crime of murder against Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai this January,” Awadi said, asking the German government to give clarity in the Brodsky case.
“As long as this may be linked to a serious crime committed in Dubai, the Emirates expects full and strong cooperation from the German authorities in pursuing this case through diplomatic channels,” Awadi added.
