The patriotic people of Egypt erupted in their great January 25, 2011 Revolution, which impressed the whole world. Its greatness was in its spontaneity, peacefulness, sacrifice, purity and persistence. Most important, too, was the spirit that fused all factions, trends and orientations in the crucible of pure patriotism that transcended partisan and sectarian loyalties, and sincerity in serving the interests of the country. These were the reasons for the great and speedy success of the people's Revolution.
In the transitional period, which lasted three years so far, grave events occurred. Subsequently, the junta executed a bloody fascist coup, and now govern with fire and terror. The coup commanders and collaborators now grab this homeland, resources, authorities and institutions, with an iron fist. The putschists dragged the country to a bottomless abyss, worse than even before the January 25, 2011 Revolution.
This was a result of international, regional and local conspiracies that exploited errors we, and all the January revolutionaries, made by drifting away from the great spirit of unity and self-denial, when conflict and antagonism drove us apart.
Everyone made mistakes. We cannot exonerate ourselves of the mistake we made when we trusted the military council (SCAF). It did not occur to us that there could be a loyal Egyptian willing to burn his homeland and kill his people in order to achieve his own dream and satisfy his lust for power. We also made the mistake of trusting the judiciary to be fair as they should be, and that they would achieve retribution for the Revolution's martyrs and eliminate corruption.
The traitorous military junta bet on the ability of deceptive media to mislead, misinform and deceive the people, fabricating a forged decorative democratic delusion. However, the great people of Egypt proved once again that they are alert and aware. They boycotted the illegitimate ruinous referendum, especially the youth who are the pulse of the present and the future, after they discovered they are facing a military coup out to enslave ninety million free Egyptians for the benefit of a handful of despotic military generals gambling with the homeland's resources.
The great people of Egypt have demonstrated, over the seven past months of the ongoing revolution, that they will not be broken, God willing, that they will have sovereignty over their country, that they will restore all resources, and that they will live only in honor and dignity, just like all other free nations.
Now, as we welcome the third anniversary of the great January 25 Revolution, we call on everyone to honor it and its convoys of pure martyrs who have been and still are being killed. We must restore the spirit of unity and self-denial, and pledge to continue our Revolution, in order to achieve our goals: bread, freedom, social justice and human dignity. We must break and defeat the murderous coup, and not be fooled again by the junta who will try to divide us and throw doubt and conflict among the ranks of the revolutionaries.
There is no doubt that we all have learnt the lesson. We have all come to realize that we can only manage this homeland for all its people, all citizens, factions and forces, through genuine participation of all segments and political colors, without excluding anyone. And no-one should try to monopolize the truth, or distribute national loyalty medals on factional whims and desires.
God is Great… long live Egypt.
Our Revolution will continue.
