IUMS’s Secretary General: Muslim World is Fed Up With Extremist Groups
IUMS’s Secretary General: Muslim World is Fed Up With Extremist Groups
Monday, December 4,2017 23:55

The Secretary-General of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), Dr. Ali Qara Daghi, said that the IUMS "doesn’t operate according to whims of any political regime, or subject to the influence of any particular country."

He added that the IUMS works to spread the foundations of freedom, justice and peace, in a world that is plagued by problems and crises.

Daghi’s statements came at a press conference held at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Doha, Qatar.

"The Union was born out of the womb of the Ummah, which has suffered enough from the extremist trends trying to hijack Islam, the religion of peace," Qara Daghi said.

"I assure you that the Muslim world is fed up with extremist groups who elevate themselves above the Ummah, and with scholars who succumb to the whims of the rulers."

He added  "We will continue to provide solutions through institutional framework in which scholars have the leading role in achieving peaceful coexistence with the rest of humanity," he said.

He explained that "the IUMS has spent great efforts in the fight against extremism and terrorism, and in the field of reconciliation between conflicting peoples, and had held also several conferences to reform the current religious education system to train and qualify moderate scholars world-wide."

Noteworthy, the four countries that boycott Qatar, (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain), added two entities and 11 individuals to its banned lists of terror to include the World Islamic Council (also based in Doha, Qatar) and the IUMS (headed by Dr. Yusuf Al Qaradawi).

In a joint statement, the four countries considered that "the two entities are terrorist organizations working to promote terror through the exploitation of Islamic discourse, and to use it as a cover to facilitate various terrorist activities."
