The Supreme State Security Prosecution on Sunday September3, 2006, extended the detention of 26 Muslim Brotherhood leaderships for another renewable 15 days against the background of what is dubbed as the Ras el Bar case( in which more than 15 MB members were arrested while vacationing in Ras el Bar summer resort). In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, Muslim Brotherhood’s lawyer Abdul Monem Abdul Maksoud said that extending detention is an expected measure on the part of the Egyptian government “ which persist with the policy of excluding any oppositionists and throwing them in prison”, he said, regarding the MB cases as political rather than criminal ones. It is noted that, according to investigations reports, all the MB cases have something in common: joining or trying to revive the activities of an outlawed group, or possessing organization related papers. The MB members who are under detention now are 107 persons who were detained in the run up of reform related activities such as supporting judges in reform campaign, or advocacy of political reform in Egypt including opposing the renewal of the Emergency Law. However, many of the MB members have been taken from their homes to detention centers under the background of being members of the group.
