Pro-Democracy National Alliance Urges Continued Non-Violent Defiance

The Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance issued the following statement Tuesday:

To the students of Al-Azhar University, the honorable men and women of Egypt…

Your great history and your university’s persistent resistance to oppressors are well known. At the venerable castle of Al-Azhar, many icons and honorable scholars, a large number of leaders, thinkers and activists graduated, such as Ahmed Orabi, Saad Zaghloul, Mohamed Abdu, Gamal Al-Din Al-Afghani, Abdullah Al-Sharkawi, Mohamed Al-Sharawi, Mohamed Al-Ghazali and Yusuf Al-Qaradawi.

So, do not waver or hesitate. Stand steadfast, with all peaceful and selfless action, in the face of the tripartite aggression against your university and other yards of science and scientists on the International Day for Human Rights, that aggression executed by the hands of the military, the police and the silent pro-military Azhar university bosses.

The Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance hails the leaders of the student movement – the young men and women of Egypt –assuring them that just as the Napoleon Bonaparte’s Azhar massacre speeded the invaders’ withdrawal from Egypt, the continuing escalation of the Revolution will accelerate the defeat of the coup, the reinstatement of legitimacy, and the dispatching of fair retribution.

To all loyal revolutionary men and women of Egypt…

Persist in your peaceful Revolution. Close ranks and support one another. Support the student movement’s struggle with all your might. Use ingenious and innovative, yet peaceful, action to thwart the terrorist coup, for the sake of the homeland and the martyrs of the Revolution, until the coup is completely defeated, just as you toppled Mubarak.

January 25 is not too far now, but the putschists are deluded, forging forth with their savage transgression, blindly insisting on violating the Egyptian military’s honor.
