Resheq: Egypt should exercise its sovereignty over its land by opening crossings

 

CAIRO: Ezzat Al-Resheq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said Tuesday that Egypt ought to exercise sovereign right over its territory through opening the Rafah border rather than building the notorious iron wall.

In a press statement to the Egyptian newspaper Aldostour, Resheq said that there are many question marks concerning the timing of building this wall in conjunction with Israel’s threats to wage a new war on the Gaza Strip.

He added, "Many political analysts believe that the building of this wall at this particular time is prompted to exert political pressure on Hamas to force it to sign Egypt’s reconciliation paper". He highlighted that Hamas is adamant and will not yield to pressure.

Resheq stressed that the ball was currently in Egypt’s court. The official claimed that Egypt continued to exclude issues, which were previously agreed upon by the Palestinian factions and included other issues that were still unresolved.

The official believed that there was an American veto on the reconciliation issue, noting that the meetings, which took place in Cairo, were aimed at benefitting certain individuals during elections.

He expressed his Movement’s belief that Mahmoud Abbas has intentions to rig any up-coming elections, noting that former US president Jimmy Carter confirmed his rejection to oversee any future elections for his confidence that there would be widespread electoral fraud.
