Rights Groups Unite Against Controversial Media Law

The Egyptian government gets used to impose restrictions on the role of media in discussing the basic cases which the society faces. These restrictions affect the right of flowing and circulation of information in a negative way. This right is considered a basic right of the human rights.

As a result the human rights organizations which signed this release confirm that the “regulating audio and visual transmission” law is going to threat the right of opinion and expression, and ask the Egyptian government represented by the ministry of information for a public discussion of the “regulating audio and visual transmission” law.

One world foundation for development and civil society care declares that the campaign which was released from hours adopting slogan “together” is considered to be the first step after the consent of 14 human rights organizations to participate with one world foundation in the campaign.

The human rights organizations ask the public opinion and all public and national powers to advocate the right of opinion and expression. Moreover, they ask the civil society organization to support                 “together” campaign which calls to a public discussion of the articles of the” regulating audio and visual transmission” law; the public opinion is a basic partner in this discussion.

The 14 organizations confirm the importance of the role of media in advocating the freedoms and the rights of the citizen and its role in exposing the society problems to find solutions , however after approving the law this will put an end to the relative freedom of media in the Arabic world in general and the media in Egypt in particular  and all the rights that support the citizen to get the information and the transparency will be violated.

The 14 organizations confirm that the Egyptian government gets used to put restrictions on the media in discussing the development cases which affect the right of flowing and circulation of information.

The Egyptian constitution issues the citizen has the right to determine his future, the organizations ask the Egyptian government represented by Mr. Anas Al Fiki ( minister of information ) to a public discussion of the drafted law of ” regulating audio and  visual transmission” because approving the law by the people”s assembly without taking the opinion of the experts will make the right of opinion and expression  get back and make Egypt from the states which violate the right of opinion and expression.
