Sabah Saqari – First Woman to Run for Chairmanship of Freedom and Justice Party
On Tuesday afternoon, Khaled Ouda, lawyer and leader of the parliamentary affairs committee of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) in south Cairo; and Dr. Sabah Hussein Saqari, Secretary of women’s committee in eastern Cairo and Assistant Secretary-General of Women’s department in Cairo; collected nomination forms and documents to run for the position of FJP chairman or chairperson, as the case may be.
Earlier, at 11AM on Tuesday, Dr. Essam El-Erian, current acting chief of the FJP, collected the application papers to run for the party’s leadership position. He was the second FJP member to receive the internal ballot documents, after Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, the party’s Secretary-General, who collected his candidacy application on Monday. Katatni was the first candidate for the FJP’s chair post.
Meanwhile, Hussein Ibrahim, head of the election commission, said that the FJP’s rules of procedure state that any member of the General Assembly – male or female – can apply for the party’s leadership ballot.
