Sawasya Centre For Human Rights Calles on Mubarak to Release Fayoum Students

Swaseya Centre for Human Rights and Countring Anti-Descrimination has issued a statement in which it condemned what was faced by Fayoum students of arrests, dismissals and administrative investigations in the university.

“the Centre condemns the continued detention of MB students in Fayoum University unlawfully despite the issuance of a decision from the General Prosecution to release them, the thing which is a transgression by the executive authority over the decisions of the judiciary enforceable decisions as provided in the Egyptian law”.

The statement added “the arrests took place in violation of international human rights laws as provided in Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that: “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile” as well as in Article 10 which provides that “Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him.”

The statement was concluded by acknowledging that arrests had been made in violation of the Egyptian law and the Emergency law itself, especially that these students haven’t committed crimes punishable by law as was proven by the release decision they had, which were manipulated and they were arrested once again.

Finally, the Centre called on all human rights organizations in Egypt to urge the President Mubarak to the need to release the students, especially since he had done that before with Al-Azhar University students before the end of the academic year and before a year is lost unlawfully from the lives of these students.
