Security Forces Arrest Four In Upper Egypt

Security forces arrested four citizens from the Upper Egypt city of Aswan on Friday after cordoning their area, storming their houses and seizing all their private papers and some of their belongings. They were probably arrested because of their involvement in the latest local elections, their neighbors say.

One of the detainees is Farouk Bahr, a school teacher who was a local elections candidate, while another, Hussein Mahmoud, is a car driver who used his car in the electoral campaign of Bahr.

State Security Investigations have failed to oblige Bahr to withdraw his candidacy registration, the neighborhood residents say.

The two other detainees were also local election candidates, but security officials have forced them to withdraw.

The detainees have not appeared before the Prosecution, and their location is not yet known to their lawyers.
