Seventeen Opposition Movements Call Egyptians to Participate in January 25 Demonstrations
Under the slogan "Together, on 25 January for Freedom, Justice, and Citizenship," 17 political parties and forces issued a statement, calling on Egyptians to participate in a demonstration scheduled for January 25.
"Now it’s time for the Egyptian people to demand their rights and impose their own will by force against the US-backed regime that has been in power for more than 30 years, adopting a policy that takes sides with a small minority of people dominating Egypt’s power and wealth," the signatories of the statement said.
The activists have called on Egyptians to demonstrate and protest against the current political situation in Egypt and declared the day a chance for civil disobedience.
"They called on Egyptians to revolt against poverty, inflation, corruption, injustice, oppression, torture, fraud and tyranny," the statement said.
They also added that the recent uprising in Tunisia has generated a great deal of hope, emphasizing that change is possible and can inspire pressure for reform elsewhere in the Arab world.
The statement was signed by 17 political forces, led by the Democratic Front Party, Ayman Nour’s Ghad Party, the Socialist Party, the National Association for change and ElBaradei’s campaign. They called on Egyptians to protest against the current political situation in Egypt, questioning: "Will the Tunisia scenario repeat itself in Egypt?"
