Shaath in Gaza for conciliation talks

GAZA, (PIC)– Dr. Nabil Shaath, central committee member of Fatah faction, arrived in Gaza on Wednesday and told a press conference that his visit aimed at holding talks on national reconciliation.

Shaath told a press conference that he would meet with Fatah cadres in the Strip on Wednesday before meeting representatives of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other factions on Thursday.

He said that his visit aimed at ending the internal rift that lasted for three years, adding that he was sent by Mahmoud Abbas (the former PA chief).

The Fatah official said that the Palestinian people were not in need of two more years of talks but rather looked forward to signing a paper that would restore unity to the Palestinian ranks.

Hamas leader Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil welcomed Shaath’s visit, saying that he was welcome in Gaza. He added that Shaath coordinated his visit with Hamas.
