Six MB Members Detained While Hanging Signs Celebrating Eid

Six MB Members Detained While Hanging Signs Celebrating Eid

Yesterday Monday October 23, 2006, the security authorities of Tahta, a town in southern Governorate of Sohag, arrested 6 of Muslim Brotherhood members while they were hanging signs carrying the name of MB member of Parliament Mohammed Yousuf congratulating the citizens in his constituency of the Eid el Fitr, a feast that marks  the end of Ramadan.

The MB members were detained under a never –heard- of charge: hanging signs which ruins the environment. The detainees were later referred to Sohag Prosecution. Commenting on this incident, the MB Member of Parliament, Mr. Mohammed Yousuf, described this action as “weird and abnormal”, lamenting that while his supporters have been detained, there are other people in the same place who were hanging signs for ruling Party members belonging to the Shura Council (the Upper House), as well as signs of candidates who stood for previous parliamentary election.

Mr. Yousuf affirmed that such measures on the part of the government will not affect the MB popularity in general and in Sohag in particular, adding that parliamentary actions will be taken to bring to book those responsible for these arrests which have been made in contravention of the law and constitution.
