Siyam: We Shall Wisely Treat Security Chaos in PA Territories

The PA interior minister, Saeed Siyam, of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, affirmed that wisdom and determination are essentials in dealing with and getting rid of the security mess witnessed in the PA territories for months now.

Siyam met Sunday with PA police director, Ala Husni, for the first ever meeting of the two, where he discussed the status of the PA Police institution and the future vision of its role in the Palestinian arena, so as to restore the Palestinian street confidence in it.

“Our internal affairs are indeed complicated and needs the efforts of every sincere Palestinian caring for the future of his country”, the minister said as he urged journalists to be careful and honest in reporting news about the Palestinian events.

“A sincere journalist shouldn’t report news that he believes could create divisiveness or escalate tension amongst the people, and if he does so (not write such news), then it will be recorded for him as a factor of unity rather than being viewed as monger of divisiveness”, he added, promising to give journalists all possible means to facilitate their mission.

On the other hand, the interior minister declared that the committee commissioned to investigate the murder of Abu Yousef Al-Quqa, field commander of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), was given the full authority to deal with the case, including summoning and detaining any person under suspicion.

Responding to questions by journalists, Siyam affirmed that the oath taking procedure he made before the PA chief, Mahmoud Abbas, and Abbas’ mandate later to him was clear enough of appointing him as the PA interior and national security minister. He stressed that his ministry is commanding and will remain commanding the three PA security apparatuses, including the PA police, national security, and preventive security unless a presidential edict is duly issued changing the command.

Siyam absolutely rejected any future security coordination with the Israeli occupation security apparatuses; however, he added that matters concerning the daily affairs of the Palestinian people will be taken in consideration as long as it pours in the interest of the Palestinian people.

He vowed to solve the persisting security chaos with wisdom and determination, and asserted that his ministry will involve mosque preachers, reformists, and tribal heads in carrying out this mission.
