Slams On Government Interventions In Judge Elections

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Court of Cassation Vice-Chair Mahmoud El-Khodeiry, a prominent figure in the Judicial Independence current, slammed the Ministry of Justice and Supreme Judicial Council for their election interventions which put Judge Hisham Genena in an embarrassing situation as he stood still in front of the clear support given to the government-backed candidate.
“The Ministry of Justice and Supreme Judicial Council brought judges from different governorates to vote for the government-backed candidate,” El-Khodeiry said considering the success of the government candidate Ahmed El-Zind a defeat to the Independence and Reform Current led by Judge Hisham Genena who was also the candidate for the Judicial Independence current adding, “However, it is the judges” administration that we must respect.”
The Judges” Club elections witnessed a fierce competition between Judge Hisham Genena, Judicial Independence candidate and Judge Ahmed El-Zind, Chair of the Change current backed by the government. The elections resulted in the success of El-Zind as President of the Judges” Club to succeed Judge Zakariyyah Abdel-Aziz with a difference of 329 votes over Hisham Genena.
