State Security Detains, Tortures 8 Al-Azhar Students

The Egyptian State Security Police forces detained on Friday, May, 4, 2007, eight Muslim Brotherhood students from Al-Azhar University, while they were going to the mosque to perform Friday Prayer; later, another group of students were arrested from their dorm. All the detained students were taken to the Asyut State Security Service headquarters; a State Security Police officer, Ashraf Abul Makarem, tortured the students using electric shocks, and ordered them to take off their clothes and bead them on their naked bodied while showering them with a flurry of insults and treated them inhumanely.
They appeared after that before Asyut prosecution on Saturday evening, May, 5, 2007, after remaining under custody and torture of the State Security Police for thirty six hours .
The prosecution accused them of joining the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood and group and of participating in its activities and attempting to revive it among student arena, in addition to other charges .
After they appeared before the prosecution, the security forces took them to Asyut police station 1 without a prosecution decision of jailing them because the prosecution was waiting for a decision the state security prosecution in Cairo. They are still jailed waiting for the prosecution decision .
The detained students are:
1- Adel Abdul Wahed Gad Al-Rab – from Qina – fourth year student- Faculty of Pharmacy .
2- Ahmed Said Abdul Aziz- from Gharbiya- fourth year student- Faculty of Pharmacy.
3-Mahmoud Ibrahim Al Sheikh- from Mansoura, Dakahlia- fourth year student- Faculty of Pharmacy.
4-Mohamed Ramadan Abdul Wahed- from Mansoura, Dakahlia- second year student- Faculty of Pharmacy.
5-Awad Awad Al-Matary- from Kafr Al-Sheikh- second year student- Faculty of Pharmacy.
6-Mohamed Zakariya Mousa – from Mansoura, Dakahlia- first year student- Faculty of Science .
7-Ramadan Ali Abdul Aal Arabi- from Banha Kaliobia – fourth year student- Faculty of Pharmacy.
8-Haitham Monir Abd Rabbo Al Nagar– from Gharbiay– third year student- Faculty of Pharmacy.
