Sudanese MPs Call on Mubarak to Release Opposition Leaders

Sudanese MPs Call on Mubarak to Release Opposition Leaders

Several Sudanese MPs affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood appealed to President Mubarak to release opposition leaders currently in prison and expressed their “deepest concern” over the government crackdown on pro-reform activists.

In a statement issued today, the MPs indicated that “This [security crackdown] is a violation of basic human rights in addition to being unjust and a sign of lack of freedom and the rule of law in treating group of people who chose to express their opinions peacefully and serve their country honorably”

The MPs also expressed their disappointment over government undemocratic practices which do not reflect on Egypt“s pioneering rule in the region, hoping that the Egyptian government would eventually intervene to correct the current situation by releasing political detainees so they can go back and serve their country.
