Survey of worlds worst dictators.
A recent survey posted on the website Egyptian Chronicle revealed that President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak has been ranked the 20th worst dictator in the world as opposed to last year’s 17th ranking. This has resulted because of numerous measures which has been practiced by the social security apparatus and ignored by his ruling regime.
The use of torture in Egypt has been widely documented. In response to international pressure, 80 year old Mubarak allowed local elections in 2008, but in 80 percent of the contests, his party’s candidates ran unopposed. He made it so difficult to register or campaign that turnout was estimated at only 3 percent. The U.S. gives Egypt $1.3 billion in military aid each year. In 2008, U.S. trade with Egypt hit $8.4 billion.
