Ten Palestinians wounded east of Khan Younis

GAZA, — IOF troops opened fire on Tuesday afternoon at a peaceful demonstration by Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip commemorating land day wounding ten demonstrators, according to Palestinian local and medical sources.

Dr. Muaweyah Hasanin, director of emergency services at the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed to PIC that ten Palestinians were wounded and that Ambulances rushed to scene to evacuate the wounded.

Land day is marked by Palestinians across the divide on the 30 March every year since 1976, when in response to the Israeli government’s announcement of a plan to expropriate thousands of dunums (1 Dunum= 1000 square meters) of land for “security and settlement purposes”, a general strike and marches were organized in Palestinian towns across 1948 occupied Palestine. In the ensuing confrontations with the Israeli army and police, six Palestinian citizens were killed, about one hundred were wounded, and hundreds of others arrested.

The march which was fired on today took place to the east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, close to the border with 1948 occupied Palestine, the land from which the majority of residents in the Gaza Strip were uprooted in 1948.
