The Muslim Brotherhood’s Leader is Banned from Hajj
The Muslim Brotherhood’s Leader, Muhammad Akef, stated that the Egyptian authority prevented him from traveling Saudi Arabia to perform the Islamic rite of Hajj, although his travel accreditation is authorized.
’This illegal decision came as a complete surprise to me. I am not convicted in any law cases. There is no travel ban issued against me. When I asked for explanation (authorities) fell silent. Is this the democracy they allege?’ Akef told the Lebanese al-Haia daily on Saturday. No comment of the Egyptian authority on this statement is available yet.
’Akef made connection with the Interior Ministry to get a travel permission to perform Hajj. The ministry expressed no objection. However, authorities informed him that his permission was canceled without giving further details,’ Essam el-Arian, a MB leading figure, said.
’All the group’s members are banned from travel, a matter that is illegal and unconstitutional,’ he protested.
’These are despotic decisions that depend on the mood of the authorities,’ el-Arian told the French news agency.
According to the French news agency, the MB’s members usually get travel permissions that turn void in the air port just like the case of el-Arian who wanted to head for Lebanon on Dec.11.
