The Truth in What Happened at Sharbatli Mosque Where Egypt President Performed Friday Prayers

The Imam of Sharbatli mosque, where President Morsi performed the Friday prayers, mentioned – in his ceremonial speech – the recent Constitutional Declaration and the right of the president to assume judicial authority.

That raised the ire of a number of worshipers, less than ten men, who objected to the Imam’s words during his sermon, whereas it is not permissible to interrupt the Imam during the Friday sermon. In any event, a number of other worshipers calmed down the situation.

After the prayers, President Mohamed Morsi reiterated his commitment to the independence of the judiciary. He said that the Imam did his best but made ??a mistake, and that he disagreed with him.

The President then called the men who objected and discussed the nature of the constitutional declaration and the keenness of the President on the independence of the judiciary. Then, the President and worshipers left. The President was certainly not blockaded or besieged in any way as some reports claimed.
