Those Who Abducted Wael Ghoneim Must Be Held Accountable Keeping The State Security Investigations Means Endorsing Impunity and Systematic Torture

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information today said that impunity in Egypt must be put to an end. The last incident was the abduction of activist Wael Ghoneim for 12 days at SSI He was released as a result of public pressure and Google campaign worldwide in which many Egyptian youth, independent media organizations and some human rights organizations took part.

Despite the release of Wael Ghoneim and that the noble young Egyptian said that it was not the right time to claim his rights amidst all what is happening in Egypt , but the fact that he was kidnapped and held blindfolded for 12 days, must not pass like other thousands of crimes committed by the State Security Investigations against the Egyptian people in impunity and with no accountability. Ending the state of emergency must be accompanied by dissolving the state security apparatus, which is very similar to criminal SAVAK in Iran.

The ministry of the interior, which includes many departments , most famous of which is State Security Investigations, which had control on life in Egypt, can operate smoothly with the other departments as in any country in the world. The SSI exists only in repressive police states where impunity and systematic torture prevail.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said, “Wael Ghoneim was more honorable and noble than his torturers, he disregarded the crime of abduction and said during a television interview that there were some good officers in SSI . The Arabic Network believes that the brutality of can readily dissolve any degree of personal integrity in its staff. This apparatus must be dissolved , it has for so long humiliated and oppressed Egyptians , becoming a state within a state”.

The Arabic Network confirms that the Egyptian citizens who rose up demanding democracy, will not settle for formal reforms. ANHRI stressed that any reforms that do not include the dissolution of the Egyptian SAVAK – SSI- will be fake reforms as democracy and oppression cannot live together in one country.
