Tunisia’s Ennahda Pledges Support For Tourism Sector

Tunisia’s Ennahda movement pledged to guarantee civil liberties for all Tunisian men and women, including freedoms of opinion, association, religion and belief, in an effort to dispel concerns about the decline in the tourism sector after it won the National Constituent Assembly elections.

According to Aljazeera.net, the Secretary-General of Tunisia’s Ennahda Movement – Hamadi Jebali attended an ‘information day’ open to workers and professionals in the tourism sector. In a news conference, Jebali said that the movement will not seek to impose anything that is not approved by the law that provides for the nature of hotel activity, and will include guarantees for freedoms of food, drink and dress. Ennahda is thereby trying to allay the fears of European tourists from the situation in Tunisia after the Islamic movement came to power.

Tourism activists also called upon Ennahda movement to communicate with decision-makers and the media in European countries to reassure them on this matter, and to work in order for a significant opening-up of Tunisia to take place on the ground and not just in words.
