Two Fabricated Cases for 18 MB Leaderships
The High State Security Prosecution decided to refer to trial 18 MB leaderships on trumped up charges, one of them relates to an MB- run political research office, while the other case was fabricated to those MB members who were arrested last month while they were vacationing at Mersa Matrouh summer resort . Foremost among the 18 MB leaderships are two MB Executive Council members, Dr. Mohammed Morsi and Dr. Essam el Erian. Investigations into the two cases will start Monday and Wednesday of this week, in what some consider as an escalation on the part of the regime following a number of political activities achieved by the Muslim Brotherhood either in the Egyptian street or in Parliament in pursuit of more political and constitutional reform.
For his part, First Deputy Chairman of Muslim Brotherhood Dr. Mohamed Habib said in an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb that what the authorities have done is an unjustified escalation, which worsens matters and shows the failure of the regime to take heed of any calls for political reform, taking a hostile stand against the society will all its brackets. Habib said that the regime mistakenly thinks that such detentions and harassments against the Muslim Brotherhood will help exclude the group from the political arena, affirming that the group is able to survive any challenges or obstacles.
On the reasons for this escalation, lawyer Abdul Monem Abdul Maksoud exclusively told Ikhwanweb that the referring of MB leaderships to trial is aimed by the regime to further exclude them from engaging into politics and silence the voices opposing it.
