Unfair Sentence Against blogger Tariq Biasi
Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) SHRC, BCM Box: 2789, London WC1N 3XX, UK Fax: +44 (0)870 137 7678 – Email: [email protected] Unfair Sentence Against blogger Tariq Biasi The Syrian Human Rights Committee condemned the unfair sentence issued on Sunday 10/05/2008 by the exceptional Supreme State Security Court against the detained youth Tariq Omar Biasi. SSSC accused Tariq of undermining the prestige of the state and weakening the national morals because of a participation in the internet. He was sentenced to six years in prison and then the sentence was reduced to three years. The Syrian Human Rights Committee regards the sentence as extremely unfair, has no legal basis in addition to the fact that the court is exceptional and constitutionally illegal. Therefore SHRC requests that the Syrian authorities should immediately release Tariq and release also all detained liberties in Syria. The blogger Tariq Omar Biasi (23 years) is from the coastal city of Banias. He was arrested on 7/7/2008 and charged of posting comment in websites banned by the Syrian authorities.
